| It is 1942 and I have turned 18 years of age. On my birthday I received my official papers through the post telling me I have to join the Army to fight the enemies of Germany. It seems I have a choice. I can either join the regular Army, the Wehrmacht; or, because I am a pure born Aryan, I can apply to join the SS. This is a much more prestigious and important unit with a famous black uniform popular with the girls. The SS is much harder to get into because you have to be able to prove you are a 'pure blood' German with no Jews in your background. I want to join the SS but my Father wants me to join the Wehrmacht. Which should I join? |
