They took him to a place called Golgotha (which means the Place of the Skull) and they made him carry the Cross on his back.   They crucified him, and on both were two other criminals.  Jesus' clothes were then taken and were divided up and the guards cast lots to see what each would get.  He was crucified at nine o'clock in the morning.  They put a notice on the cross saying mockingly 'THE KING OF THE JEWS'.  The people watched him and said, " He saved others, let him save himself if he is the Christ of God, the Chosen One".  Then the thief on his left said to him, " Aren't you the Christ? Save yourself and us!"  But the criminal on his right answered and said, " Don't you fear God, since you are under the same sentence?  We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve.  But this man has done nothing wrong."  Then he said, " Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom."  Jesus answered him and said, " I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise."
By that time, some more of the prophecies made in the Old Testament were fulfilled.  For example, ' ' All they that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head saying, he trusted on the Lord that he would deliver him: Let him deliver him saying he delighted in him.'
Psalm 22:7,8
Also in Psalm 22 verses 16-18 it says: ' For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have enclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet. I may tell all my bones: they look and stare upon me.  They part my garments among them and cast lots upon my vestures.'
Isaiah also said in his 53rd Chapter in verse 5: ' But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him and with his stripes (bruise) we are healed.' In verse 12 of the same Chapter he also said, ' He was numbered with the transgressors, and he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.'
There is a prophecy in the bible in Amos 8 verse 9 that says, ' And it shall come to pass in that day, said the Lord God, that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the Earth in the clear day.'  And so it did happen.  It was about 12 o'clock in the afternoon when darkness came over the whole land until 3 o'clock, and the curtain of the Temple was torn in two.  And at 3 o'clock Jesus cried out " Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?" which means, " My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?" This fulfilled another prophecy in the beginning of Psalm 22: " My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken me?  Why art thou so far from helping me from the words of my roaring."  He then called out saying, " Father, into your hands I commit my spirit."  When he said this, he breathed his last.
Jesus was then buried in a tomb, and a great rock was placed in front of it. Pilate also ordered that some guards stay in front of the tomb, because the chief priests suggested that the Disciples might go to the tomb, steal the body and say that Jesus had resurrected.  So Pilate decided to send guards and to seal the tomb after placing a rock at its door.
