R.E Visit to London
On Tuesday the 11th of December we went to London to visit the Regents Park Mosque and the British Museum in London.
We got onto the coach from school at about 9 o'clock. When we reached the mosque we had to wait a while for our tour guide so while we were waiting we visited the shop that was there. The shop had lots of things, some of which had lots of beautiful calligraphic Arabic writing on them. I noticed that none of them had any pictures of animals on them.
In the end our tour guide didn't turn up but we had a substitute instead who took us around the mosque. First we went into the prayer room but before we entered we had to take off our shoes and cover our bodies and all the girls had to cover their heads as a sign of respect. There was a rack at the side of the room, which we could use for our shoes, which we had to take off.
The prayer room was a big room, which had no furniture in it apart from the minbar, or pulpit. In the centre of the room underneath the dome was a beautiful chandelier. The carpet had prayer mats woven into it. Photos were not allowed to be taken inside the prayer hall, as it is a holy place. After seeing the prayer hall we went to look at the wudu room, which is two different rooms, one for men and another for women where they wash before they go to pray. When we had seen all this we left the mosque to got back to the coach, which took us to the British Museum.
When we got to the Museum we went and had a look at the Islamic Gallery where we had a sheet of questions we had to fill in.  On the way to the Gallery Mr Christodoulou took us through the Ancient Egyptian exhibit where we saw several mummies including one which was 5,000 years old nicknamed
' Ginger '. We thought ' Ginger ' was much better looking than Sir!
Overall we enjoyed the time we spent exploring the mosque and the British Museum. I also liked the roofing in the British Museum, which had a wave effect and had been designed by computer.
