Mother Teresa of Calcutta [1910-1997] was a Roman Catholic nun and the founder of the Congregation of the Missionaries of Charity. Born in the former Yugoslavia, she took her vows as a nun in 1931 in India, taking the name 'Teresa'. In 1946 she felt called to do something about the poverty around her. Today, her order of nuns has a number of houses in Calcutta and over 60 in the rest of the world. The Sisters and Brothers of the Order minister to the sick, the dying, leprosy patients and the hungry.
